The Glass House

The Glass House was built in 1949 by Philip Johnson. The house is located in New Canaan Connecticut and sits on forty seven acres of land. The Glass House is made of glass and steel beams painted a charcoal color. Johnson took his inspiration from Mies Van De Rohe’s Farnsworth house which is also made of glass and steel. Inside the house there are no walls only a circular element that inhabits the fireplace and the bathroom. It is made of the same brick that is found on the floor. The house is simple yet complex and the sense of translucency lets you relate to nature but still has the comforts of life today.
